Jahnene Bass - Founder & Tutor
I’m Jahnene Bass, a mom, tutor, and encourager committed to helping children grow academically and emotionally.
I help children in Pre-K through 5th grade build confidence and master foundational skills in math and reading. Whether online or in person, I meet each child where they are, creating a learning experience that feels fun, supportive, and free of pressure.
I’ve always loved math; it came naturally to me and ignited my confidence early on. Reading, however, was a different story. I struggled deeply with reading and comprehension and didn’t learn to read confidently until middle school. I still remember how discouraging that felt, and I promised myself that when I had children, they would never face the same challenges. That promise led me to study the science of reading and become passionate about creating strong, early literacy foundations for young learners.
I’ve been tutoring for over 10 years, helping children discover their strengths and a genuine love for learning. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and a Bachelor of Science in Information Systems, but my true calling has always been teaching, mentoring, and encouraging others.
As a wife, mom of three, and active youth mentor, I’ve spent years guiding kids, from my local community to NFL families, toward confidence, growth, and academic success.
After being a stay-at-home mom for the last nine years, I've decided to finally follow my lifelong dream of creating a space where kids feel safe, supported, and free to learn at their own pace.

At Smarty Pants Math and Reading, learning isn’t about rushing through lessons or memorizing steps; it’s about helping each child feel capable, confident, and proud of their progress.
Every student learns differently, and that’s something I celebrate.
I take time to understand each child’s learning style, study habits, and personality, then design lessons that make sense for them.
